“Clown” is spectacular! I loved ever moment of this brilliant, dark, twisted, graphic, satirical, horrific, damn-near-masterpiece of a film! “Clown”, directed by Eli Roth, is the ultimate (albeit a little extreme) definition of TRUE horror and it doesn’t hold back! Some people seemed to see this as a flaw, either feeling as though the movie ‘went too far’ or that it was just trying to be disgusting for the hell of it…but they have it all wrong. Yes, kids die in the movie, yes, it’s fairly graphic and disturbing, but this is a HORROR movie about a terrifying demon clown that lures and devours children! I just feel like if you’re going to watch this movie, you can’t really complain afterwards that kids were killed, or that the clown was too horrifying..
“Clown” is a very clever film about Kent, a fairly ‘bumbling’ dad, who finds himself in dire, last-minute need of a clown suit for his son’s birthday party. Suspiciously enough, he finds a brilliant suit, complete with nose and make-up and wig in a spooky old trunk in the basement of one of his client’s homes (he’s a realtor). Kent puts on the suit and he’s a big hit at the party, but then he finds he literally cannot remove any aspect of the costume! It’s as if it has all fused to his skin…and things only get worse as Kent begins to change and transform and hunger for little kids!
I thought this movie was so amazingly well done, it didn’t waste much time getting started, it progressed from funny and unnerving, then to sad and intriguing..and a bit more unsettling.. Then eventually the movie takes its inevitable descent into the terrifying, the bloody and the disturbing..and it just keeps diving until the transformation reaches it’s peak.
“Clown” is more than just a horror movie, it’s about what we are willing to do for the people we care about and begs the question, how far would ‘you’ go for someone you loved? I thought this movie was utterly and absolutely fantastic, but I can only recommend it to die-hard, true horror fans who can handle their horror more extreme.
