Isn’t that the most gorgeous movie poster?? Well don’t be fooled. The close up of Rose Leslie, her face subtly clenched and haunted, certainly hints that there’s a sinister side… But in actuality, you’d be hard-put to find much else in Honeymoon. It’s brutal, and tragic and fascinating. The movie begins with an adorable little “wedding video”, in which the two newlyweds, Paul and Bea, tell us a little about their love story and where they’re going for their honeymoon. They have decided to go to a lake-front cottage, and their first day there is pretty much perfect…well aside from a foreshadowing encounter with a local and his wife… But then, Paul wakes up to find the bed empty, he searches for Bea and finds her in the woods… She claims to have been sleepwalking, but by the next morning she is not acting like herself. At first it’s small stuff, she’s more forgetful and distant, but as the days go by, her behaviour becomes more and more alarming. After a while, Paul really starts to lose it, he can’t process what’s going on, he can’t take it, and understandably so. Like I mentioned earlier, what happens in this movie is just so tragic, but film is still excellent, and the acting is terrific. I would recommend to horror fans, but keep in mind, there are a few pretty graphic scenes, so I don’t want to casually toss this title around. (It is on Canadian Netflix though!)
