A surprisingly entertaining little slasher, a tired premise perhaps, but well-done, and contains a few fairly creative scenes. I did enjoy “Kristy”, it’s great if you’re just in the mood for a decent slasher with a few different things that you may not have seen before.
“Kristy” centers on Justine, a young woman in college, who is staying in the dorms over thanksgiving weekend…unfortunately she happens to be the only student on the campus…. Meanwhile, we are shown that there is a cult of killers who are so jealous of girls whom they believe ‘have it all’, that they choose one of these girls, dub her ‘Kristy’, and then terrorize her, and kill her, before moving on to a new “privileged” victim. Their latest target, of course, is Justine. Her relative isolation over the holiday weekend, makes for an easy chance to attack her, or so they thought. So, Justine must fight for her life, and it turns out that she’s quite the fighter, in this ‘turn-on-the-killers’ style, slasher film.
“Kristy” is far from perfect, in fact, it’s not really all that special in any way, but, let’s face it, the ‘slasher’ genre doesn’t allow TOO much in the way of opportunities for originality. As far as I’m concerned, if a film is categorized as a ‘slasher’, I have a pretty good idea of what I’m in for, and I’d say that “Kristy” delivered just fine. I do have to mention that I did like the ending, the way it was very subtly foreshadowed in the beginning of the film, and it was pretty cool too.
