This one is very interesting and I really liked it. “Murder Party” is an extremely dead-pan horror-comedy, shot in a rather matter-of-fact manner. The first half of the film features practically no gore and some may even argue that the majority of this film couldn’t even be classified as horror at all. Personally though, especially given the last half of the movie, I don’t see how one could classify it as anything else, because once the killing starts, it seems like it might never stop and gore-lovers should certainly get their fill!
Christopher is a friendless dork who has never had fun plans on Halloween night, and this year was going to be no different, until his cat refuses to vacate his favourite chair, preventing him from watching his lame videos and devouring a bowl of candy corn, as planned… Luckily (or maybe not), earlier, while walking down the street, Christopher happened upon a mysterious invitation to a ‘Murder Party’, so he decides to check it out after all. Unfortunately, the party is exactly as advertised, and Chris ends up tied to a chair while a bizarre assortment of costumed “artists” decide how best to express themselves through his murder. Then things go all sorts of awry and Chris must exploit the mayhem if he wants to make it through the night.
“Murder Party” really is a quirky little gem with a fresh premise, an interesting set of characters and some rather original moments, including truth serum induced confessions and a drunken smoking mishap with disastrously grisly results! I would absolutely recommend this to any horror-comedy fans.
