A very interesting mix of dark-humour, bitter poignancy, and sick brutality, Peelers is truly unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. There’s a very cool concept going on here and this film is much more clever than you would expect, the problem I think most viewers will have is that this film is designed to devastate and.. with a strip club for a setting and such a basic premise.. well, you just don’t see it coming!
“Blue Jean” is selling her lovely little strip joint, and tonight is the closing night. After a surprisingly entertaining array of performances from some uniquely talented ladies, a group of men suddenly begin transforming into angry, violent zombiesque creatures, and this small town quickly gets a lot smaller. The first half of the film leans more towards a sassy and eventually, very violent, horror-comedy..albeit, with a questionable script.. that honestly only gets worse and worse, however, I did find that the sheer level of gore in this film made for quite the distraction from the terrible “one-liners”. Then there’s a sudden serious shift in the mood a little over halfway through, and things quickly become intense and at times, genuinely devastating enough to have me in tears during multiple scenes. Concluding in a anticlimactic yet still utterly shocking twist ending that will leave you horrified and disgusted, this one is not for everyone…but, what can I say…I still really liked it.
