“Slither” is a fantastic horror-comedy/creature-feature that even throws in a little romance! It’s much more intelligent than it may seem at first glance, certainly clever, but, more than that, it’s actually a very smart film with surprising attention, given to some very interesting details. For what it is, this movie is just absolutely perfect! It’s revolting but it’s beautiful; it’s creepy and bizarre, but it’s also fascinating! It’s funny and silly and twisted… it’s just thoroughly entertaining.
“Slither” takes place in a fictional small town in South Carolina, Starla and Grant don’t have the perfect marriage…and while ..ahem.. ‘in the woods’ with another woman, Grant stumbles across a hostile alien organism. Grant is infected and begins a horrific transformation as the alien creature takes over his mind. In spite of everything, Grant still loves Starla, and the alien has never experience ‘love’ before…In my opinion, it’s the added element of romance that really makes this film so interesting, plus it paves the way for some brilliantly creepy details later on. “Grant” goes on to incubate a colossal swarm of “babies”, basically large, extremely fast slug-like creatures that seek out a host, enter through the mouth, and then almost immediately transform the host into acid-spitting, zombie-like, drones that carry out the will of their ‘father’ (ie. “Grant”).
Hopefully this movie sounds as awesome as it is, because “Slither” really is just excellent, a modern-day B-horror…(with better acting and a much better script than your typical “B” movie).
