“Tesis” (or, in English, “Thesis”) is a very dark, Spanish, psychological thriller (yes, it will require glorious subtitles!). It’s taut, gripping, and that does an excellent job of keeping the viewer guessing who the killer is, or if there even really is one. The end explains everything, which is great, given that that can be a rarity in the horror-movie world.
“Tesis” focuses on Angela, a university student who is writing her thesis on ‘audiovisual violence in the family’. During her research she meets a fellow student by the name of Chema, a possible sociopath who is known for his collection of violent and pornographic videos. She also asks her thesis director about the most violent tapes in the school library and his search turns up something deadly in more ways than one, soon Angela realizes that there’s something very sinister going on in this university…but is Chema involved?
“Tesis” is shocking and fascinating, it reveals the dark side of people… the side that can’t help but want to look at a dead body at a crime scene, the side that enjoys watching violence and blood and gore. It’s just so well made, it’s an intelligent, intense and thought provoking thriller that really draws the viewers in and keeps them engrossed.
