Review: The ABC’s of Death 1&2 2012/2014
Unlike what seems to be the chiefly held opinion among critics and viewers, I actually strongly preferred the first “ABC’s of Death” film over the ‘sequel’, I particularly enjoyed letters, “D”, “E”, “H”, “I”, “K”, “R”, and “S”, and especially “T”, and “X”! That isn’t to say I wasn’t able to enjoy plenty of the second film’s set of shorts, in fact, I was especially pleased to see the talented Beatrice Dalle (featured in the letter “X” in ABC’s of Death 2; other amazing films of hers include “Inside”and “Livid”). And, with regards, to the second “ABC’s of Death” installment, I particularly liked letters, “D”, “J”, “M”, “N”, “Y” and “Z”.
I would just love for this franchise to keep on going “ad infinitum”! I mean, the idea, in general, to make a horror anthology employing such a wide variety of directors, from all over the world…it’s just wonderful!
The stories in both movies vary wildly from letter to letter, from horror-comedy, to serious and intense, to bloody and violent, to somewhere in between; from the more commonplace to the outright bizarre; in all different languages and genres and styles, including cartoon, CG and ‘claymation’! And, though it would be highly unlikely for anyone to be lucky enough to enjoy every single short in both films, (personally, I could have done without seeing the letter “L”… in the “ABCs of Death 1”) all horror fans are still guaranteed to be entertained, and even find *something* to love about both of these compilation films, even if it’s simply that fact that they exist! As far as I’m concerned, this franchise is WELL worth a watch, and here’s hoping there’s many more installments to come.
