After watching so many slashers and violent gore films lately, I had been looking for something a little quieter…but still awesome of course 😄. “The Wrath” served perfectly! It’s a very cool movie, set in Korea in the 14th century, and featuring some breathtaking cinematography , “The Wrath” is a darkly beautiful and bloody ghost story that really delivers the scares.
There is a curse upon the house of the highest-ranking official in the Joseon Kingdom, all the son’s are being brutally killed off, one by one, by a vengeful spirit. When the last son dies, his pregnant widow, Ok-Bun, is the last hope for the family line. Ok-Bun, with the help of a powerful shaman must figure out how to destroy the evil and end the curse if she hopes to save her own life and that of her unborn child. There is a confusing element to this film that requires a fair amount of focus, however since it’s subtitled, it should be easier to keep focused… The film seemingly seamlessly goes back and forth between the present and the past in the form of dreams, this is to show the backstory behind the curse. The ending isn’t so great, though I didn’t particularly understand it… But overall this is a great movie, apparently a remake of “Woman’s Wail” made in 1986 which I am now also greatly interested in seeing! 😛 Highly recommended to all horror fans!
