“Vicious Fun” — Great title, huh? And especially appropriate for a horror-comedy. I do always love a good movie title, and this one definitely delivers on it! I had a great time watching “Vicious Fun”, set in the 80s, it’s a very fun and fairly different concept, and making the film a horror-comedy allows things to get more than a bit silly which, I thought, worked very well here. The gore really is excellent and there’s lots of it, I liked all the characters and thought they were each well-introduced, and it’s also pretty funny.
Joel is a horror movie critic for a magazine called “Vicious Fanatics”, he also has aspirations of writing his own horror movie, and a very big (and quite unrequited) crush on his roommate, Sarah. After getting particularly drunk one night, Joel passes out in the bar’s supply closet until after hours. When he wakes up, he finds that the bar is a late night meeting place for what can only best be described as a support group…for serial killers. The killers are wonderfully varied, there’s Mike, who is essentially our slasher-type villain, Hideo, who’s more of a ruthless hitman…with a taste for human flesh…. There’s the meticulous and psychopathic “doctor”, Fritz, who likes to dress up as a clown. And the leader of the group, Zachary, who boasts that he has killed entire villages in third world countries. After he is mistaken for their newest member, he must keep up the act for the sake of his safety…but it turns out, Joel isn’t the only one who has a secret to keep and one of the killers is in fact only a killer of killers!
“Vicious Fun” is a fantastic ride of a film that shows us what happens when you put 6 killers in the same room for too long, throw in an interloper, a few boneheaded cops, and a concerned little damsel of a roommate, and you truly do get some vicious fun ;).
